Luminale Frankfurt:
TWINKLE TWINKLE in front of the Deutsche Bank Towers

With over 140,000 visitors, it’s the world’s leading biennial for light art. Every other year, the Frankfurt Luminale, held during the Light+Building international architecture fair, transforms Frankfurt into a laboratory for extraordinary artistic experiments. In addition to the traditional Luminale sites, including the Börsenplatz, Hauptwache, and Römer square, as well as the Palmengarten, Frankfurt Central Station features prominently as a cathedral of mobility.

In front of the Deutsche Bank Towers, an enthralling experience awaits visitors. They can witness TWINKLE TWINKLE, a fascinating light object consisting of 576 prism poles made of pure glass that form a concentric structure. Three meters high and four meters in diameter, the sculpture recalls a sparkling vortex that changes with every incidence of light, every movement of the visitor. In daylight it is subtle and scarcely palpable. Through the refraction of light, each glass pole produces lightning-like reflections that fan out into a fascinating color spectrum. At night, artificial lighting gives it a dramatic, glittering effect. Interactively, TWINKLE TWINKLE creates a space that is real and imaginary at the same time. TWINKLE TWINKLE is a project within the framework of ArtSpace. Since 2013 Deutsche Bank presents extraordinary projects and works by German and international artists at its Frankfurt headquarters.

Other hotspots of this year’s Luminale are Frankfurt’s East Harbor, where the transformer station will light up, and the Naxos Factory, a platform for experimental young positions. This year, there are again than 100 light events on the bill, and the main themes of the biennial are energy efficiency and sustainability. One of the spectacular contributions is a shadow puppet show on the façade of the Nextower. It was conceived by the Sounds of Silence studio and Luminale visitors can participate.
